The Berkeley Building, also known as the Old John Hancock Building is wonderful example of art deco architecture built in Boston's Back Bay neighborhood. It's a 26-story building built in 1947 by architect firm Cram and Ferguson. The famous storm beacon pictured here offers the weather forecast of the day with its colored lights of red or blue.
There is a poem that explains this colored weather beacon. It goes like this;
Steady blue, clear view.
Flashing blue, clouds due.
Steady red, rain ahead.
Flashing red, snow instead.
Also during baseball season a flashing red beacon means the Boston Red Sox game has been canceled because of bad weather.
